Marilyn has devoted almost 30 years to her career in lending and real estate. She was the founding principal of Alpen Mortgage in 2002 and currently serves as Director of Compliance for Alpen.
Before her career in finance Marilyn taught ESL for 5 years to grades K-5 at an intercity school in San Francisco. She then worked for 2 years on the Options floor of the Pacific Stock Exchange. After moving to Southern California, she taught skiing in Wrightwood for 8 of her 12 years as an instructor. Marilyn began her mortgage career in 1994 as a lender with Home Savings of America and then as a builder rep for Ryland Homes, covering all of Western and Northern LA county. During her time in conventional lending, she was a top producer, earning her the prestigious president’s club awards at both Home Savings of America and Ryland Homes. During her career, Marilyn has also been a successful real estate investor and has survived all 3 major downturns in the market for the last 30 years.
Marilyn considers lending as a creative outlet, an art and not an exact science. She likes finding options that open doors that people don’t consider, “Make the box fit the people, instead of the people fitting the box.”
In her free time, Marilyn enjoys spending time at Lake Tahoe, skiing, riding dirt bikes and driving fast cars. Previously, she managed an amateur race program that supports youths interested in a career in motocross.
